From Adrian Tripp, CEO, European Business Awards
Good afternoon,
As you are aware, we have been evaluating the situation on the ground in Istanbul constantly and are of the opinion that the European Business Awards Gala Ceremony should proceed on Thursday, as should the networking event at the British Consulate.
Foremost in our minds is the safety of everyone attending the European Business Awards Gala ceremony and after seeking advice from numerous sources including the British Consulate in Istanbul, the consensus of opinion is that the risk of any trouble directly affecting the event is small. We have checked with other organisations running events and with the exception of traffic delays and disruptions, the events and delegates have been unaffected by the protests and troubles.
Naturally all advice is to avoid areas where protests are taking place. However because of the fluidity of the situation, the risk of trouble cannot be ruled out completely. So it is for that reason we would fully understand if you decided not to attend the event. It is your decision to make, in the end you have to evaluate for yourself whether you think the risk is too significant to attend or not.
One of my colleagues was asked by a Ruban d’Honneur recipient whether attendance would affect the results of the European Business Awards in any way, and it categorically will not. The results have been already been decided by the judges and cannot and will not change now.
A couple of points to take into account: travel is taking longer around the city so give yourself as much time as possible (Istanbul traffic is bad at the best of times) and please keep following the news about the general strike. At present, it does not look like it will affect travel in and out of the country but this may change during the next 24 hours.
My team has spoken to many of you and as said we are very much looking forward to bringing everyone together to celebrate your achievements and to announce this year’s winners. We hope to see you at the event and to introduce you to each other as we are sure some very productive relationships will be formed. For those of you that decide not to attend, we are exploring the option of making a broadcast announcement of the results.
We will continue to monitor events today and will issue another update at 6pm BST this evening. However as I said, please make your own judgement, consult with your organisations and make your decision to attend or not as we will not be able to mitigate the risk completely. If you decide not to attend please notify the EBA team.
Many thanks for your understanding and all of your wishes of support.

New Patron Announced for European Business Awards
It is with great pleasure that the European Business Awards is able to announce that the European Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht has been confirmed as an official patron.
Designed to recognise and reward excellence, best practice and innovation in the European business community, the European Business Awards is now in its seventh year and has grown in size and stature year-on-year. In 2011, the awards engaged with over 15,000 businesses across 28 European countries and the combined turnover of the 2011 EBA entrants was over 1 trillion Euros.
Commenting on becoming a patron for the awards, Mr De Gucht says: "With Europe's economic future dependent on the strength of our companies and industries, I think it is important that we showcase our most exceptional businesses, share knowledge and generate debate around the creation of a stronger European business community. The European Business Awards does just that, as well as ensuring the outstanding talent, energy, creativity and innovation of our business community is recognised. This is why the EBA is such a valuable initiative and why I am honoured to be its patron."
RSM, the seventh largest global accounting network, has become the lead sponsor for the European Business Awards to April 2014. This is the sixth year in which RSM has supported the Awards programme, but the first time the network has chosen to become lead sponsor and spearhead the prestigious European awards.

Europe’s 100 Most Dynamic Companies Celebrated in Leading Business Awards Programme
The European Business Awards has today announced the names of the 100 companies that have achieved the coveted Ruban d’Honneur status in this prestigious 2012/13 awards programme.
Over the past two months, an esteemed panel of judges made up of European business leaders, academics and entrepreneurs has assessed the 200 companies that made it through to the National Champions stage of the awards. From these, 100 businesses from 28 countries across Europe have been chosen as Ruban d’Honneur recipients. They have been picked for their business accomplishments as well as their dynamism, focus and ethical standards.
Each of the National Champions was judged in one of ten individual award categories covering Innovation, Growth Strategy, Environmental & Corporate Sustainability, Customer Focus, Employer of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Import/Export and Business of the Year [t/o €0-25m], [t/o €150m+] and [t/o €26-150m].
Intensive face-to-face interview sessions with the judging panels will now take place before the ten overall category winners are announced at a gala event in April 2013.
This year, for the first time, entrants in the European Business Awards submitted a video case study as part of the judging process. All case studies were uploaded onto the European Business Awards website and an online public voting mechanism was introduced.
The organisers of the European Business Awards (www.businessawardseurope.com) have completed an intensive round of country events, held across Europe over the past month to announce all 192 National Champions from 28 European countries. Each of these companies now goes forward into the next round of the prestigious 2012/13 Awards programme, with 100 successful companies being awarded Ruban d’Honneur status.
