Professor Emeritus within the Accounting & Finance Division of the School of Business of London South Bank University (LSBU)

Professor Dr. Kenneth D’Silva is Professor Emeritus within the Accounting & Finance Division of the School of Business of London South Bank University (LSBU). He is also Director of that division’s “Centre for Research in Accounting, Finance & Governance”.  For several years until 2010, he was the School’s Director of Postgraduate Research Degrees and oversaw its MPhil, PhD and Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) Programmes. During that period, he led the successful development and launch of the School’s DBA Programme.

Professor D’Silva is a UK and Canadian qualified Chartered Accountant with ‘Big 4’ firm experience in both countries. His professional career includes periods of senior financial management positions within industry. He earned his PhD from Cass Business School in London, England with his doctoral thesis being in Corporate Auditing.

Professor D’Silva’s lecturing portfolio focuses on Research Methodology, Corporate Governance, and External-Internal Auditing. He is an active researcher and research supervisor, having supervised several doctoral students to successful completion. His own research is mainly in (external-internal) auditing and governance and he has presented papers at UK and overseas (including Italy, Latvia and India) research conferences. He has conducted invitational guest seminars in Research Methodology in the UK and abroad (e.g. China, Lithuania, Italy and Germany).

Professor D’Silva’s research publications have appeared in important electronic and printed journals. And he frequently acts as a referee for articles submitted for publication to various research journals in the area of corporate governance, auditing, accounting and research methods. Such journals include “The Journal of Applied Accounting Research”, “The Electronic Journal of Business Research Methods” and “The International Journal of Auditing”.

Professor D’Silva currently supervises a set of doctoral research students. And, within the identified areas, his past research students have successfully researched a very wide range of U.K. and European business issues. He has supervised to completion several LSBU research students and, upon invitation from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, has similarly co-supervised a PhD research student from that university.

As External Examiner, Professor D’Silva has examined doctoral candidates from U.K. universities (including Kingston University, University of Glamorgan and Henley Business School, University of Reading). Equally, as Internal Examiner, he has examined doctoral candidates from within LSBU. Finally, Professor D’Silva has served or is serving as External Examiner to universities in the United Kingdom (including Birmingham City University and University of Bedfordshire) and the Republic of Ireland (Waterford Institute of Technology)
