FORMER MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT TO THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC ALFONSO PECORARO SCANIO

Former Minister of the Environment to the Italian Republic (2006-2008); President of Foundation UniVerde

A Lawyer and journalist, the Honorable Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio is President of the Foundation UniVerde, a position he has held since 2008. He is also a teacher of politics of environment and ecotourism at the University Bicocca in Milan and at the University of Rome-Tor Vergata.

Hon. Pecoraro Scanio was a Member of Italian Parliament representing the Green Party in the Chamber of Deputies from 1992 to 2008; and was President, from 2001 to 2008 of the Federation of Italian Greens of which he was a co-founder. He has also represented the Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.

From 2006 to 2008 he was Minister for the Environment, Land and Sea developing several laws supporting renewable energy, sustainable mobility and the green economy.

From 2000 to 2001 Hon. Pecoraro Scanio was Minister of Agriculture approving the reforms of Italian agriculture, forestry and fishing.

He was the winner of the TRI AWARD for Policy in 2011 - a prestigious award conferred by Jeremy Rifkin.

Since 2009 he has taught Politics for the Environment and Ecotourism at the University of Milan-Bicocca and, since 2013, Tourism and Sustainability at the University of Rome-Tor Vergata.

He is the author of numerous published books.
