Airports:

Rome has 2 major airports:

Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) – situated approximately 30km south west of Rome city centre with a journey time of approximately 45 to 60 minutes

Roma Ciampino Airport (CIA) – situated approximately 30 km south east of Rome city centre with a journey time of approximately 40 to 50 minutes
 
Getting to the Westin Excelsior from Rome Fiumicino Airport:

Taxi – Taxis are available at the airport. The official taxis are white and identified by the illuminated Taxi sign on the roof. Ensure the meter is running, and check the approximate price of the journey beforehand. Recently, Rome authorities introduced a set price for taxis between Rome and its two airports. From Rome Fiumicino Airport into central Rome (anywhere within the Aurelian walls, which generally includes the central tourist area) a taxi ride should cost exactly €40 (this includes baggage and up to four passengers). This also applies in the opposite direction.

Limousine Service – many limousine service operators are available for shuttle services to and from both Fiumicino Airport and Ciampino Airport to Rome city centre. Rail – A direct train called the Leonardo Express operates between Fiumicino and Rome Termini Station. Follow the signs for the Leonardo Express located in the main Arrivals hall at the airport. The train departs every 30 minutes, with no mid-journey stops. The journey time is approximately 30 minutes and a one way ticket costs €16 (as of July 2008).

Train tickets may be purchased from the Rail Ticket Office, newspaper seller-tobacconists and self-service tellers all located in the Railway Station Hall. Please note that before starting your journey you must always stamp tickets at the yellow machines situated on the platform

Passengers will have to change trains at Rome Termini for Metro A to Barberini or Spagna – the closest Metro stations to the Westin Excelsior.

Rail – There is no rail transport at Ciampino Airport. The options are to take a bus to a metro station or to take a bus or taxi all the way in to Rome city centre.

Bus, then metro transport – COTRAL/Schiaffini operates buses from outside the terminal building to Anagnina Metro station (travel time approximately 10 minutes) from where passengers can take Metro A directly to Barberini or Spagna – the closest Metro stations to the Westin Excelsior.

Beware the metro can get very crowded!

Daily Shuttle Bus Services from Ciampino Airport to Rome City Centre –

Sit Bus Shuttle – for timetables and fares visit www.sitbusshuttle.it
Terravision – for timetables and fares visit www.terravision.eu (available only if you fly into Rome with the following airlines: Ryanair, EasyJet, Hapag Lloyd Express, Wizz, Myair, Blue Air, Central Wings and FlyMe)

Both bus routes operate roughly once or twice an hour (8:00-12:00 and 16:00-20:00). Travel time is at least 45 minutes on either route.

How important is recognizing and rewarding European business success?

What do you see as the key challenges confronting European businesses at the moment?
Although a strong CEO can and should plan for economic cycles, three years ago I doubt any European CEO would have planned for a global economic slowdown triggered by crises in the international credit markets, matched with high inflation due to a surge in the price of oil and food. The biggest challenge for European businesses is to maintain their strategic direction in the face of uncertainty. Market changes might mean challenges have changed and businesses need to realign their priorities and short-term direction.

What do you think will be the future concerns of businesses in Europe?
Emerging economies could be seen as posing a competitive threat to European business, but it is important to recognise that economies like those in the BRIC region can offer growth opportunities to European companies. Of course, business risks can be high there and there is no common approach – businesses must carefully assess the political, cultural and economic features of those countries.

What drives you as head of a multinational organisation?
Success of the global network is the ultimate driving force, and we have been growing and strengthening consistently for some time. Whilst I can help strengthen the network from the centre, RSMi’s people are its most important asset, and the hard work, determination and quality of the member firms ensure our continued success.

What advice would you give to an Award entrant?
Work hard, focus on quality and be the best you can be in your field. A successful award entrant will need to have mastered these skills and be able to clearly show how these will benefit and advance the business community.

Do European businesses set the benchmark for emerging regions?
Europe’s economy has thrived for many years, so in that respect, of course there has been a benchmark set for emerging regions. But these regions operate differently – different cultures, different political systems, different business challenges. Yes, emerging economies will learn from Europe’s precedent, but likewise European companies will need to adjust and learn from them if they are to pursue global growth opportunities.
